TeamKID's Mission

Our TeamKID’s club has been participating in a local mission for one particular Gunter student named Jacob. All the mission money collected at the TeamKID sign-in table will be donated to the “Broken Hearts Ministries”, that will enable Jacob to have special equipment for his riding lessons.

Jacob had a condition known as lissencephaly. The brain normally has an irregular surface of what is termed gyri.. However, in lissencephaly the surface tends to be partially or completely lacking of these gyri and is therefore smooth. Lissencephaly encompasses a group of these malformations of the brain and it affects kids differently from a neurological status. Jacob, for example, was born with this condition and it has effected his ability to swallow, eat, talk, walk, etc.How can “Broken Heart’s Ministries” help Jacob???? “Therapeutic riding is extremely effective. In addition to the physical benefits, it offers psychological benefits because riders feel a sense of achievement and control. Therapeutic riding requires both balance and muscular control and that often enhances or expedites recovery. The slow, continuous rhythmic motion of the gait of the horse is therapeutic and helps develop the muscles around the spine.”Our goal this year is to provide “Broken Hearts Ministries” and Jacob with at least $500 or more to put towards his specialized equipment so he can have the opportunity to enjoy and achieve these benefits through this type of service. It is exciting to see our children excited about participating in this Mission!
