Watoto FREE Concert This Wednesday Evening!

Since 1994 Watoto Children’s Choirs have toured internationally spreading a message of hope for Africa’s children. The choir represents Watoto’s vision and mission through their music and dance. The children are among the 1.8 million boys and girls in Uganda who have had the tragic experience of losing one or both of their parents to AIDS or war. The purpose of Watoto is to provide spiritual, physical, educational and emotional care for every child so that each one will become a responsible Christian and productive citizen of Uganda.

Join us Wednesday night at 6:30pm for an inspiring performance by the Watoto Children’s Choir. The concert will prove to be colorful and lively demonstration of the life-changing love of God experienced by the children of Watoto.

The concert is free. A love offering will be collected.

Mission Project: Family2Family Boxes

FAMILY 2 FAMILY BOXES: Do you want to help out with the Family 2 Family Mission Trip to New Mexico but can’t attend???? We have a way for you and your family to actively participate from here at home!

As most of you are aware we will be sending some of our very own GBF families on a mission trip to the Navajo Reservation the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.

Therefore, we only thought it appropriate to assist with the Mission Trip by asking families to help by gathering shoeboxes, or storage boxes similar in size. Much like Operation Christmas Child, we ask that you stuff each box with necessities that would be useful to the people of the New Mexico Reservation.

Such items would include: gloves, socks, toboggans, toothbrush, brush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc.

Our goal is to send at least 25 boxes. If you would like to participate but do not have the funds to fill a full box, the Children’s Hall will have a few boxes that you can slowly fill with a few items at a time!

Boxes may be stacked in front of the kitchen on the children’s hall or at the church office from 9am-2pm (Monday-Thursday). The last day to donate will be November 19th.

This is a great opportunity to help give this season and a great way to support our GBF missionaries!!

For more information please contact Mandy Turner at mandy@thegbf.com or at 903-818-7722.

"The Mission" Challenge

Our Wednesday night programs, TeamKID and IMPACT 56, are having a challenge to see which group can raise the most money for our mission this year.....which will support "The Mission of Gunter". The money raised will help support this nonprofit organization in many areas. Some of the programs that The Mission of Gunter provides, you may already be familiar with: The Clothes Closet, The Food Pantry, The Mission Table, etc...

Not only will the children be involved with THE MISSION by raising money, but also by actively participating in THE MISSION, as well (just as Jesus would do)!!! This week, IMPACT 56 will be visiting and assisting in the clothes closet by cleaning, hanging clothes on hangers, and organizing. TeamKID will be making cards to hand out to the folks that receive meals from The Mission Table, as well!!! In the months to come, we hope to help organize the food pantry, sort and organize canned goods and clothes that are being donated, and hopefully engaging in assisting in Community Meals, too!!

What an awesome teaching opportunity this is for our children of GBF. I hope that you will begin to pray about our involvement with THE MISSION this year!!! I know God will change and mature hearts in the lives of our children this next year!!!

Community Fall Festival on Halloween

Bring your friends and neighbors to the Community Fall Festival (hosted by GBF and FBC Gunter) on Halloween evening from 4-6pm at the High School Parking Lots!

There will be free refreshments, carnival type booths, plenty of candy, and fun for everyone!

We need several volunteers and donations to help make this event successful.....
1) We ask that each EKG group host at least ONE booth with prizes and working volunteers.
2) Water Bottle Donations(approximately 150 from each adult EKG group would be IDEAL).
3) A few men to help cook hot dogs on the grounds.... GBF will provide hot dogs and buns
4) Candy donations
5) A truck, a trailer, and a willing adult to provide a hayride up and down Tiger Lane.

**The Children's Ministry Team will provide a face painting booth!!

With your help, we can reach our community for Christ on this night! How awesome will it be to see fellow believers in this crowd engaging in conversation with those who may not know Christ!!!

I am looking forward to working with you!

Sincerely,
Mandy

Get Involved!!!

August 23rd will begin our new year of curriculum and events for the Grace Kids and their families! However, we still have slots open!

An immediate need for the children's ministry is for a SONKIDS Coordinator. The SONKIDS meet every Sunday during EKG hour. The ages range from PreK-3rd grade! The curriculum is easy to follow and requires only about 2-3 hours a week of preparation. Preparation includes 1)reading over the lesson and Bible Story 2)prayer 3)prepare a simple lesson outline and 4)preparing by having supplies out and ready! Small group teachers are already in place!

Another ongoing need is for a Coordinator for our First Steps (ages 24m-28m) Class. The duties and responsibilities for this class are much like the SONKIDS. This class also has a new curriculum that has been purchased and is eagerly awaiting to be used:-)

Other opportunities to serve are the following:
1) TeamKID (full and monthly rotation on Wednesday evenings)
2) Nursery Volunteers (monthly rotators)
3) First Steps-ages 2yrs and 3yrs (monthly rotators)

If you still want to help or serve with us but none of these openings you are comfortable with, please contact Mandy Turner. She will be more than happy to find a place for you:-)

Much thanks for all the support and involvement of those who pray, serve, or volunteer in anyway! Each of you are such a huge blessing!!!

A Big Thank You

As most of you are aware, this past weekend we took 25 kids and 5 leaders to Camp KIDJAM! God is so good and granted us with huge successes all the way around at Camp KIDJAM this past year! The kids were amazing! We had awesome worship times, fabulous discussions during small groups, and formed great relationships with one another! Our leaders were also treated to some amazing and very educational trainings! What a blessing!!! I am still in awe with how God worked in all of our lives this past weekend-mine included!

I personally want to thank everyone for your support, prayer, and financial contributions to help make this camp a success for GBF's Children's Ministry. Words can not express how appreciative I am!

I plan to share a mini movie this Sunday at church. Until then, please enjoy a quick look at a few fun pics!!!

SMAK Kids Program 2009

This has been an awesome week at SMAK (Summer Music and Activities for Kids)! Our theme this year was GPS (God's Plan of Salvation). We studied about King Josiah, the ten commandments, the sin of greed and what an idol is, and of course, the gift of salvation and what that means to US!!!

The kids also participated in many special activities.........movie day, missional talk, bouncehouse watersliding, a visit from a critter woman, and even performed their very own talent show! On that note, I must say....we have some very "rare" talented kids in our community.

Many thanks to the adult and youth leaders who have volunteered their time and efforts. I have been amazed at how many helpful people have come to help out with this event! The kids have loved every minute of it!

I also want to thank anyone and everyone for the lunch donations, as well!

The GPS-SMAK Musical Presentation
will be held Friday evening at 6:30pm in the GBF sanctuary. Please step into the children's hall to view our little homemade town of Gunter, as well!!!

Lake Fun with Family Field Trip!

This Texas heat is brutal!! However, the lake was a perfect way to spend the day.

A handful of families and several adorable kids made our way out to Lake Ray Roberts on Monday afternoon. We swam a lot, we made several small beach lakes in the sand (some even had there own "moats"), and even did some catfishing. It was an awesome time to be together!

Here are two pictures to share......... One of Gabe Turner with a cherry juice mouth playing a trick on his mom. He was pretending that he fell and busted his lip open! HAHA! The other picture is of the boys building miniature lakes in the sand.

A group photo will be posted soon, as that picture was on a different camera!

A Great Day at Frank Buck Zoo

Today we took 12 kids to Frank Buck Zoo. It was an absolute great day all the way around!! Despite the heat, God was good to provide shade and a good breeze which made it very comfortable for all of us! We spent about an hour and a half at the zoo looking at all the animals (big tortoises, feeding giraffes, and listening to a bird say hello) and enjoying each other's company!

The second half of the day we enjoyed at the park.... The kids played hide-n-seek, made up some funny dance routines, and even had a nice train ride!!!! We also had a pleasant picnic under some nice shaded trees!

We ended our day with a swim at the Scales' house......Thanks so much for having us!

We have some great kids and they all acted and treated each other very well!!! What a great and awesome day this was!

I am looking forward to more fun on Family Field Trip Days. Our next outing will be June 29th at Denton Water Works!!!!

Area 56

Thanks to the creative work of TJ Rizzo the Boys 5th and 6th grade class, Area 56, had a great hands-on lesson Wednesday evening. The boys have been “Walking through the Old Testament” and studying the tabernacle, temple, and the Arc of the Covenant. This week they were treated to a life-sized replica of the arc with the Ten Commandments inside. They learned of the Lord’s command to build this arc and what He told the Israelites to place inside of it.

The boys were awestruck to learn of the power of God and stories the Bible told about this Golden, Earthly Throne of God.

Bible Bookmarks

Did your child come home with a "Bible Bookmark" this past Sunday after EKG hour? I sure hope so. A friend of mine gave me some samples to share with our ministry. After reading up on the Bible Bookmarks, I thought that this would be a great tool to use to help form good habits of reading God's Word on a daily basis.

I highly encourage you, as parents, to get involved with this program. It is simple and requires very little time..... However, the impacts of what kind of habits can and will form through the discipline of completing the Bible Bookmarks are beyond any reward we can give here on earth.

The Bible Bookmarks have a few verses to read each night. Read and please mark each night that your child read. Read the verses, sign the back of the bookmark, and bring back on Sunday for a "Treasure Box" reward.

Right now, the SONKID'S class is the only class participating in the Bible Bookmarks. However, I have ordered enough for the entire children's ministry to use. Please keep a eye out for these!

I am looking forward to hearing how your family implements these in your home!!!

***If your child did not receive a Bible Bookmark, please feel free to pick one up at the TeamKID table on Wednesday or call Mandy Turner to get one sooner!

TeamKID's Mission

Our TeamKID’s club has been participating in a local mission for one particular Gunter student named Jacob. All the mission money collected at the TeamKID sign-in table will be donated to the “Broken Hearts Ministries”, that will enable Jacob to have special equipment for his riding lessons.

Jacob had a condition known as lissencephaly. The brain normally has an irregular surface of what is termed gyri.. However, in lissencephaly the surface tends to be partially or completely lacking of these gyri and is therefore smooth. Lissencephaly encompasses a group of these malformations of the brain and it affects kids differently from a neurological status. Jacob, for example, was born with this condition and it has effected his ability to swallow, eat, talk, walk, etc.How can “Broken Heart’s Ministries” help Jacob???? “Therapeutic riding is extremely effective. In addition to the physical benefits, it offers psychological benefits because riders feel a sense of achievement and control. Therapeutic riding requires both balance and muscular control and that often enhances or expedites recovery. The slow, continuous rhythmic motion of the gait of the horse is therapeutic and helps develop the muscles around the spine.”Our goal this year is to provide “Broken Hearts Ministries” and Jacob with at least $500 or more to put towards his specialized equipment so he can have the opportunity to enjoy and achieve these benefits through this type of service. It is exciting to see our children excited about participating in this Mission!
